Why ReStore? ReStores started in Canada in 1986 because someone had a great idea, what do we do with all of this leftover building material that has been donated... They didn't want to throw it away, because it wasn't in bad shape, and was still very usable. The idea was crafted to help raise a few funds by selling the items and then donating the money back to the Building program.
Since the inception of this idea ReStores have grown exponentially and you will find 65 of them across Canada. In the USA there are over 700 stores. ReStores have become the saving grace to our operational costs. It is a very competitive world in the charitable sector, people always seem to be dipping into their pockets and with our economic downturn it seems like the charitable asking is way up! Our ReStore depends on donations of new or used building supply materials or household items to sell to the general public. These funds raised cover the administrative costs of the affiliate, and we are very happy to say that 100% of every single dollar donated to the affiliate is directed towards house building. Our very first Durham ReStore was opened in July 2009, and now our 2nd store in Oshawa opened on Friday, December 10th.
We cannot thank everyone enough for welcoming us to Ajax, and the fantastic reception we received in the new Oshawa store as well. Our customers have requested and we have responded with a larger space dedicated to just retail.

While we would like to accept all donations, we do reserve the right to refuse items based on their condition, age and fulfillment need in the store. Our savings on disposal fees from this initial assessment process helps us to put more money towards our main objective, building homes and building hope for another family in our community.
